Why subscribe to Reading Starts?
Children who love stories become children who want to read. Children who read for pleasure learn more across a lifetime, and that love of story is laid down before a child can read a word, by listening.
Reading Starts sets out to to beat the screen in the race to the child, and in so doing, lay down a foundation that is more likely to result in the child becoming invested in reading and life long learning.
It asks families for one small thing: reading fifteen minutes of a story to a child each day, and beginning before they can read for themsevles.
Readingstarts.org is an attempt to create a movement of parents to get their children interested in reading by developing an interest in story long before they encounter a screen. About Me
Hello. My name is Vincent Shaw-Morton, I write under the pen name of Vincent Shaw.
I live on the Sussex coast in the UK and I’m a concerned grandfather to a four-year-old boy. Before retiring, I worked in health care. I began in the NHS on the Emergency Floor at St Richard’s, moved into cancer logistics, and later worked in private health as a GP Liaison and Consultant Manager, organising education events for healthcare professionals. Before that, I worked as a designer and illustrator in publishing, and spent fourty years drawing, painting and writing stories. I also publish careandcraft.uk and horseguard.uk
Also, I coined the word Anglomythics and defined it as the thousand-year tradition of imaginative literature from the British Isles.

This Reading Starts website is just beginning, and I am hoping it will grow through parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians and anyone esle who believe that reading to a child matters, because reading starts year before the page.
